In 2012, I received an email from a guy in Colorado. He had received a postcard with my painting. He there told me the story about the spelling of VIET NAM. I had spelled it VIETNAM up till then. Now I was told that it was really spelled in two words, but during the war (at this time Internet did not exist, neither did computers) all communications were made by phone or telefax/telegram. as you paid for the spaces used an empty space like in between VIET NAM would come with a charge. So, to my source New York Times took upon themselves to change the spelling of Viet Nam, Sai Gon, Ha Noi to mention a few to save some dollars.
